1) Uncontested Divorce:

In Rhode Island, an uncontested divorce is available to parties who, at the time of filing, agree to the dissolution of the marriage, the distribution of assets and liabilities and custody, visitation and support.

In an uncontested divorce, Attorney Sullivan will process your matter expeditiously and at a flat fee.

2) Contested Divorce:

In Rhode Island, a contested divorce occurs when, at the time of filing, the parties have been unable to amicably resolve one or more issues, such as, custody, visitation, child support or the distribution of assets or satisfaction of liabilities.

Most divorces are contested in the initial stages and most are amicably resolved after a period of negotiation.

Attorney Sullivan is an able, skilled and experienced negotiator which is why a contested divorce does not have to be an expensive divorce.

3) Legal Separation:

A legal separation allows a couple to live separate and apart and to separate their assets and liabilities.  Couples remain legally married.

In all facets, it is the equivalent process to divorce except for dissolving the marriage.
